GLOVES - General Purpose

Nitrile and latex gloves are both commonly used for protection, but they have key differences. Nitrile gloves are made from synthetic rubber (nitrile butadiene rubber), making them completely latex-free, while latex gloves are derived from natural rubber, which can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Due to this, nitrile gloves are considered hypoallergenic and a safer choice for those with latex sensitivities, whereas latex gloves contain natural proteins that may trigger allergic responses.

In terms of durability and chemical resistance, nitrile gloves offer superior protection against punctures, chemicals, and oils, making them ideal for use in medical, industrial, and laboratory settings. Latex gloves, on the other hand, are more elastic and comfortable but provide less resistance to harsh chemicals and punctures. Regarding comfort and fit, nitrile gloves are slightly less flexible but conform to the hand over time, whereas latex gloves are highly stretchable and provide a snug fit, offering better dexterity and sensitivity.

As for usage, nitrile gloves are preferred in industries such as healthcare, automotive, and chemical handling due to their strength and resistance. Latex gloves, although commonly used in healthcare and food service, are less suitable for environments with high chemical exposure.

GLOVES - Cut Protection

Cut protection levels for safety gloves are standardized to help workers select the right level of protection against cuts, lacerations, and punctures. The two most common standards are ANSI/ISEA 105 (North America) and EN 388 (Europe and internationally).

The ANSI standard, set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), categorizes gloves into nine cut resistance levels (A1–A9), based on the amount of force (measured in grams) required to cut through the material using a straight blade.

The EN 388 standard uses a different method for testing cut resistance and assigns a numerical rating (0-5) or a letter (A-F) depending on the type of test performed.

  • A1-A3 / EN 388 Levels 1-3 → General handling, light-duty tasks.
  • A4-A6 / EN 388 Levels 4-5 or C-D → Metal stamping, glass handling.
  • A7-A9 / EN 388 E-F → Extreme hazards, heavy-duty applications.
